Vision

To foster holistic education by integrating scientific knowledge and practical skills in various fields of Homescience to become competent professionals.  The programme aims to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators, and socially responsible individuals who can contribute to the sustainable development of communities and improve the quality of life through informed decision-making and innovation.

Mission

  • Strengthening the skills and potentials of students through scientific principles, knowledge and experience acquired for optimum living
  • Fostering the development of students in active need based, innovative and community-oriented research using appropriate methods, collect and process data and present evidence-based solutions and defend arguments related to the field of research in Home Science
  • Inculcating appreciation towards offering services to the needy
  • Developing managerial & entrepreneurial skills at various levels by exposing them to contemporary educational challenges for improving the quality of education and better employability.

About the Department

Department of Homescience  was established  in 1962 

The department offers  primarily application oriented education to transform the role of students from job seekers to job providers, keeping in view the fast changing demands of the fast moving community. To this extent the curriculum had transition from traditional theoretical orientation to professionalism with clinical nutrition & dietetics specialization. Students are provided with skill and entrepreneurial oriented teaching, internship in reputed institutions for hands-on-training and work experience. 

The department offers market driven  courses to the aspirants  in the three core programmes  i.e., BSC Homescience (Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics) in three year major system and a single major honours programmes in BSC Honours (Homescience) and a  BSC Honours (Nutrition & Dietetics) respectively. The department  offers   certificate courses to enhance students abilities in need based areas of homescience. There are five  faculty members presently working in the department.

Students are encouraged with the following Merit Awards

  • Sri Lakhmi Narasimha Rao and Smt.C.Sitaramamma memorial cash prize instituted by their beloved daughter C.Sulochana  Rtd. Lecturer in Homescience for the best out gooing student award in Homescience.
  • Gopi reddy Obul Reddy  Memorial gold medal insituted by his daughter Dr.G.Padmini Devi for the best outgoing student  and all rounder in Homescience.  

Awards of the faculty of Homescience

  • State Best teacher award was secured by Dr.G.Padmini Devi for the year 2022-23.
  • Sanctioned and submitted two UGC Minor research projects by Dr.G.Padmini Devi and Dr.K.Anitha Kumari. 

The courses embedded in the  programmes of Homescience  equipped with knowledge, skills and  technological advancements enabled  the students to face emerging challenges  and   grab the opportunities in the hospital sector, Food labs, Abott diet clinics, medical coding  etc. Further equipped   them to secure admissions into higher studies  i.e. SV University, Padmavathi Mahila University, Indira Gandhi University, Avinaash Lingam University, Tamil Nadu etc. Two of our students cleared UGC NET exam, three students placed in Government jobs and majority got settled in  private jobs.

Student Centric Teaching Learning Practices of the department such as collaborative learning, piar and group work, project based learning, problem solving learning, experiential learning etc ensured outcome based education to the vast extent is testimonial of   our student progression.
