To foster holistic education by integrating scientific knowledge and practical skills in various fields of Homescience to become competent professionals. The programme aims to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators, and socially responsible individuals who can contribute to the sustainable development of communities and improve the quality of life through informed decision-making and innovation.
Department of Homescience was established in 1962
The department offers primarily application oriented education to transform the role of students from job seekers to job providers, keeping in view the fast changing demands of the fast moving community. To this extent the curriculum had transition from traditional theoretical orientation to professionalism with clinical nutrition & dietetics specialization. Students are provided with skill and entrepreneurial oriented teaching, internship in reputed institutions for hands-on-training and work experience.
The department offers market driven courses to the aspirants in the three core programmes i.e., BSC Homescience (Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics) in three year major system and a single major honours programmes in BSC Honours (Homescience) and a BSC Honours (Nutrition & Dietetics) respectively. The department offers certificate courses to enhance students abilities in need based areas of homescience. There are five faculty members presently working in the department.

The courses embedded in the programmes of Homescience equipped with knowledge, skills and technological advancements enabled the students to face emerging challenges and grab the opportunities in the hospital sector, Food labs, Abott diet clinics, medical coding etc. Further equipped them to secure admissions into higher studies i.e. SV University, Padmavathi Mahila University, Indira Gandhi University, Avinaash Lingam University, Tamil Nadu etc. Two of our students cleared UGC NET exam, three students placed in Government jobs and majority got settled in private jobs.
Student Centric Teaching Learning Practices of the department such as collaborative learning, piar and group work, project based learning, problem solving learning, experiential learning etc ensured outcome based education to the vast extent is testimonial of our student progression.
