The department of Home Science organized a field trip to “AP weavers centre” for final year students to have first-hand experience on various surface enrichment techniques like dyeing and printing, Bathik, and weaving. As a part of this we have visited AP Weavers Service Centre on 14- 08-2023 with the aim of gaining in depth knowledge of surface enrichment techniques of textiles taught in the theory and gained hands on experience on various processes and methods applied to enhance the appearance, texture, and functional properties of textile surfaces at this training institute by application of techniques like dyeing, printing, bathik, block printing etc. It helped to enable the students to analyse the role of hand-loom textiles in the global market and also to understood the art and science behind the dyeing and block printing techniques and processes.
The Dept of Home science organized Competition on “Cook Without Fire” on FN of 15-09-2023, 30 students of Homescience in and around Guntur city were participated in this activity. This activity aims to bring out the innovative recipe development, to inculcate food safety practices and to retain nutrients and to encourage the students on their culinary skills. The Activity was organized for the nutrition and its allied fields students in and around the Guntur city based on the “The Nutrition Week Celebration theme for the year 2023 is “Healthy Diet Going Affordable for All”. The students were registered from Vignan University, Acharya Nagarjuna University, JMJ Tenali, SIMS College, etc and the participants were given instructions and preparation time to exhibit their Culinary skills on no cook concept. Dorka, Lecturer in Biochemistry, GCW(A), Guntur were acted as judges for this competitions. It enable to bring out innovative recipe development by inculcating food safety practices.
The Dept of Home science was organized a state level workshop on “Carbs and Calorie count by using Food Exchange list” on 16-09-2023, which aims to provide hands on knowledge on the calorie count by using food exchange list in specific conditions. The students & faculty of Homescience fraternity throughout Andhra Pradesh state were participated on online and offline mode thus a total of 168 participants gained hands on in this activity. In this workshop the speaker delivered topics such as food exchange list, that is mainly used on daily basis and how to do carbohydrate distribution in diabetic clients, the diet, tools and techniques for carbohydrate counting, its principles & advantages along with a sample menu of exchange list. It also helped to Enable the students to enhance the knowledge of community towards better nutrition as a weapon for well being.
The Department of Homescience collaborated with kendriya vidhayala school nallapadu Guntur, to be part of their 10 days bag less day training programme. In this training programme the school students undergo training in various skills enhancing activities like Basic Culinary art & Cook Without Fire Recipes. The training program aims to empower our students with essential culinary skills and the ability to prepare simple and nutritious meals without the use of traditional cooking methods. The faculty and 6 students of III B.SC HSC from department of Home science participated in 10 days Bag less day training programme. The training programme duration was about 10 days i.e., from 5-10-23 to 19-10-23. This 10 day training programme was given to the students of 6th, 7th, and 8th classes of KV. Each session includes basic culinary carvings using fruits and vegetables like orange peel teddy, tomato butterflies, tomato rose etc., followed by fireless cooking recipes.
The department of Home Science organized a Entrepreneur activity of candle making and diyas crafting under (Tink Hub Activity), in Government College for women, Guntur from 06-11-23 to 08-11-23. The main aim of the activity is to improve entrepreneurial creativity by appreciating the blend of tradition and innovation. It fosters collaboration and group learning. Often times, it brings people and students together, helping them learn from, and aid each other as they persevere towards creating something. The main motto in imparting this Activity as a part of curriculum is to enhance various skills like observation, evaluation, communication, resource mobilization and management, risk assessment, team building and leadership among the students so that they become entrepreneurs both in spirit and performance. In this event, teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students of home science participated. In this activity final year 22 students and 10 students from Second year are present. Students prepared the products and organized sale in the college.
The department of home science organised a field visit to Sunbeem Child Development and Rehabilitation Centre, Guntur on 18-12-2023. In this field visit III-year Home science students with their resource person are visited the centre. We supervised practical activities, assisting staff with therapy sessions and gain insights into the challenges faced by people with diverse abilities and the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible environment and understand about the role of interdisciplinary teams such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists in providing comprehension care and rehabilitation. By this activity the students are able to identify the role of specific equipment’s and applications for effective curriculum planning to support children's development and also Gained First-hand experience to enhance their awareness of different abilities and disabilities.
The department of Home Science organised a fieldtrip for final year students on 20th December 2023, to Krishi Vignan Kendra with the aim of observing current farming technologies and advanced technology in dry land farming ranging from green houses, water harvesting techniques to a variety of crop trees. It helped to have first-hand experience of how a training organization functions in terms its activities, functions, human resource structure etc. by visiting these institutes, the students gain an in-depth understanding of training organizations.
The Department of Home science conducted a Certificate course on Art of Indian Dyeing and Hand Block Printing on 22nd Feb to 5th March 2024. This course provides a hands on exploration of the traditional art of tie and dye along with block printing techniques. Students will learn the fundamentals of fabric manipulation, colour application block design. To foster creativity and artistic expression by encouraging students to explore diverse colour combinations, patterns and motifs in their tie and dye block printing samples production. Further develops foundational understanding of textiles design principles emphasizing the integration of tie and dye with block printing to create unique and aesthetically pleasing fabrics that assist the students to take up this surface enrichment technique as an entrepreneurial activity at small scale.
The Department of Home science organised a field visit to Sangam Dairy, Vadlamudi on 21- 2-2024, Sangam Dairy is a prominent dairy cooperative known for its commitment to quality and sustainable practices. The primary objective of the visit was to assess the operational processes, quality control measures, and overall production efficiency at Dairy. Students gained a comprehensive understanding of the intricate processes involved in milk processing, from quality control to packaging and also learned about the importance of maintaining high hygiene standards and utilizing advanced technology to ensure the safety and quality of dairy products.
