Vision

To offer an education that provides students with a competent and globally relevant skill set, including communication skills and life skills, to mold them into responsible and self-reliant individuals.

Mission

  • To offer programmes and courses that would equip students with both language and literature aspects of English studies and thus prepare them for diverse employment opportunities.
  • To instill confidence among students through motivation
  • To increase Student Talk Time through student centered practices
  • To improve Life Skills and Communication skills through LSRW activities
  • To develop Higher Order Thinking. 
  • To impart job skills to students and make them employable and self-reliant.

About the Department

  • Department of English was established with the inception of the college in 1942. 
  • The department offers Language Courses and Skill Development Courses across programmes like B.A, B.Com, B.Sc with various combinations.
  • Apart from language and Skill Development Courses, the strength of the department lies in the two core courses i.e., Special English and Communicative English in three major system and a Single Major honours programme in Special English and a Minor in Communicative English. The department offers certificate courses on need basis.

Students are encouraged with the following Merit Awards

  • Nannam Sujatha Memorial Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student in Special English. 
  • Kalapala Pitchayya Memorial Cash Prize of Rs, 20000/- for the best outgoing student in Communicative English.  

The diverse courses offered in the two programmes have helped students secure admissions in EFLU, Hyderabad Central University, AP Central University Ananthapuramu and meritorious awards like the Best Community Service Project award of Commissionerate of College Education, Govt. of A.P. in 2022.

Student Centric Teaching Learning Practices of the department such as pair work, group work, project-based learning, LSRW skills imparted through activity-based learning, Practical component on skills assessment ensured better achievement of intended learning outcomes.

Eight faculty members presently work in the department. The strength of the department lies in 5 faculty being doctorates. One of the faculty is a Course designer, Material developer, Editor of Course books and RELO Certified ELF Master Trainer.
