About the Department

Department of Biochemistry started functioning as Self-financed program from the academic year  1998-1999. Initially the department had three major degree programme in Biochemistry with a  combination of Zoology, Chemistry. Later, the department was upgraded with other combinations  and ended up with the single major program - Biochemistry Honours. The department laboratory  is equipped with good infrastructure facility with all the required equipment. 

Biochemistry plays a critical role in deciphering the complex chemical processes that sustain life,  making it a foundational pillar for advancements in health, agriculture, and environmental  sciences. Biochemistry explores the molecular mechanisms underlying cell functions, energy  transfer, genetic expression, and metabolic pathways. This field provides insights essential for  understanding and addressing diseases, developing new medical therapies, improving agricultural  yield, and advancing environmental sustainability. 

The Department of Biochemistry offers a congenial environment and strengthen students in both  theoretical knowledge and practical applications. Our curriculum, study projects, and hands-on  laboratory sessions equip students with the skills necessary for careers in research, healthcare,  biotechnology and allied fields. Our faculty is committed to create a learning environment that  encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation, essential for addressing the  challenges in science and healthcare today. 

Till now the department is striving hard and providing a quality education for more than two  decades.
