  • 2023-2024 Department Activities

    • A guest lecture on basic principles of feed and important feed ingredients was delivered by Dr. Abraham Lincoln on 14-07-2023. All the staff of Zoology department and 63 students of B.Sc Zoology have attended the lecture.

      Intercollegiate competition for students was organized by zoology department “Bio-spark” on 15-09-2023, to ignite the minds of young biologists from different colleges of Guntur district. 50 students have participated in JAM, QUIZ, Tell the scientific names, Aquaculture models, Idea Spark.15 students received mementos and Certificates, and all the students who participated received certificates from Head of the Dept of Zoology.

      An academic extension activity from 15-11-2023 to 17-11- 2023 was organized for Govt. Degree college, on certain important topics like biomedical tools, DNA fingerprinting, ECG, Amniocentesis etc were dealt by Dr.KSrinivas In-charge of Zoology Department and Dr.K.Bhanu Prakash faculty of Zoology. About 100 students of Government Junior College were benefitted by this activity, as this has added to the knowledge of students.

      An Aquaculture exhibition was organized by the graduate and postgraduate students of zoology on “World Fisheries day”, 21-11-2023. Students prepared models of various systems of aquaculture practiced globally and also recent techniques which are environmentally sustainable like RAS, Integrated fish farming, Biofloc, Aquaponics. They have presented and explained the models as exhibits to 166 students who visited the exhibition and gave a positive feedback.

      A field trip to Nizampatnam Harbor, Srinivasa Hatcheries, Abad shrimp export and processing plant was organized by the faculty and In-charge of Zoology on 01-12- 2023, for the students of Zoology and Aquaculture, 100 students and 6 teaching staff participated. Students observed the various species of marine catch of the Nizampatnam Harbor. In the hatchery they have observed SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) brood stock of L.vannamei, larval rearing etc. In the processing plants they have observed and noted the post harvest techniques in preservation and processing and how they are exported to different countries all over the world.

      An academic extension activity to Govt. Degree college students of Narsaropeta on 06-12-2023 to 07-12-2023. Multi-Disciplinary course topics for 1st semester students of B.Sc. Zoology were taught by Dr.M.Naga Prasanna.

      A training programme for students and entrepreneurs under SC-SP on 30-01-2024 was organized at RRC (Regional research Centre) ICAR-CIFA Vijayawada during 29-01-2024 to 02-02-2024. Dr.T.Anita Susan acted as resource person and delivered lecture on “Overview of ornamental fish industry in India”. 

Departmental Activities 2021-22

  • Celebration of International Yoga Day: 21.06.2021: Celebration of Yoga Day is to get relief from physical ailments and mental stress. Dr. K.Kondaiah, rtd. Lecturer in zoology and master trainer in yoga. He explained the importance of yoga and demonstrated various simple yogasanas and breathing exercises to which are useful release the stress and to maintain healthy life. Regular practice will strengthen the muscles of our arms, back, legs, heart and lungs.
  • Guest Lecture on Fisheries Education: 16.07.2021: Resource person I. S. Chakrapani, Lecturer in Zoology, PRR & VS Govt. college, Vidavalur, explained the importance of fisheries in present day life, foreign exchange, various opportunities in fisheries sector very clearly.
  • Guest Lecture on Strategy for PG-CET 2021 preparation: 23.07.2021: Sri. G. Lakshmi Narasimha Prasad Govt. College, Anantapur, explained the tips and preparation plan for PG entrance examination.  He informed various reference books to be followed and Pattern of questions asked in previous exams.
  • Webinar on Career opportunities in Aquaculture: 24.07.2021: Dr.Ramesh Rathod, Sr. Scientist, ICAR-CIFA, Vijayawada, explained about various career opportunities available in private and Govt. sectors and to develop as an entrepreneur using Aquaculture.
  • Poster presentation on Ozone day16.09.2021: The students have drawn beautiful pictures of the given theme and presented their poster
  • Essay writing competition on World Animal Day: 04.10.2021: To make the students know about the importance of animals in an ecosystem. To elicit the writing skills in the students and build confidence in them.
  • World Fisheries Day: 20.11.2021: Dr.P. Madhavi Latha, Deputy Director of Fisheries visited the department of zoology and observed various working models on aquaculture prepared by students and explained the working mechanism.
  • Field trip to LAM farm Live Stock Research Station 18.12.2021: Dr. K.Mutta Rao explained different varieties and breeds of cattles, artificial insemination and also reproductive assisted tools and techniques in veterinary science.

Departmental Activities 2020-21

  • Online Quiz on Covid – 19- Department of Zoology has prepared and conducted online quiz to create awareness on Covid-19 among the public and students for protecting themselves from this pandemic. 05.2020.
  • Online Quiz on Aquaculture- Department of Zoology conducted online quiz on aquaculture in order to elicit general awareness of fishery 01.06.2020.
  • Orientation to Junior Lecturers of Govt. Jr Colleges- Orientation programme was conducted through online for Lecturers of Govt. Jr Colleges of Andhra Pradesh on Immune System by Dr. Ankamma.02.06.2020.
  • Conducted awareness programme on malaria on the occasion of World Malaria 20.08.2020.
  • Online Quiz on the occasion of Ozone Day- An online quiz was conducted on ozone layer to draw the hidden talents of the students on ozone and atmospheric 16.09.2020.
  • Webinar on World Animal Day- To create awareness about the welfare of the animals the department has conducted a webinar to acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives. Dr. J. Abraham Lincoln, Deputy Director, Dept of Animal Husbandry, Vijayawada acted as Resource Person for this 04.10.2020.
  • Webinar on World Immunization Day- To promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease the department has organised a webinar on the occasion of World Immunization Day. 11.2020.
  • Online Quiz on Aquaculture on the occasion of World Fisheries Day- To create general awareness on Aquaculture he department has conducted an online quiz on basic knowledge of fisheries on the occasion of World Fisheries 21.11.2020.
  • Awareness programme on HIV on the occasion of AIDS Day- To create awareness about the symptoms, causes and preventive measures of HIV/AIDS that has taken unprecedented number of lives the department of Zoology has organised an awareness programme. 12.2020.
  • Extension Activity to Govt. Junior College for Women, Guntur- Students of Govt Jr. College, Guntur visited Zoology museum. Dr. Ankamma, Dr. BDJ Satya Latha and Dr. Naga Prasanna explained about various invertebrate and vertebrate 25.11.2020.
  • Extension activity at ZPHS, Nallapadu- The department of zoology adapted the Z.P High School of Nallapadu from the academic year 2015-2016, as an extension activity the department taught biology subject to 10th class students of EM and 17.02.2021.
  • Workshop on Food Adulteration- To create awareness on different food adulterants, about the role of AGMARK and FSSAI in food safety, food regulation acts and policies and simple tests to identify food adulterants at home the department has conducted a workshop on Food 02.03.2021.

Departmental Activities 2019-20

  • Celebration of International Yoga Day- of Zoology celebrated Yoga Day. Sri. T. Koteswara Rao, Retd. Lec. of Chemistry, GCW (A), Guntur conducted yoga class and He gave lecture on yoga and its importance in curing diseases. He performed many simple aasanas which are useful to make our life healthy. 21-06-2019
  • NAAC Peer Team Visit- Department of Zoology, Government College for Women, presented our department activities, models prepared by students and Foldscope Project work on street food samples to the NAAC Peer team. 06.2019
  • Preparation of Manuscript magazine - The students of I BZC EM presented the manuscript magazine “COLOURS of LIFE”on 25 different poultry breeds, 38 human diseases, 34 different butterflies to improve the experiential learning and community awareness among the 27.07.2019
  • Invited lecture by on Applications of Nanotechnology- Department of Zoology and Research Cell of Government College for Women (A) Guntur organised invited lecture by K. Ramchander Rao, Department of Physics, Government Arts College (A), Rajahmundry on Nanotechnology and its applications in textiles, renewable energy, biomedical, health care, food agriculture, environment, electronics and industries. 17.08.2019
  • Rally on Global warming and Depletion of Ozone layer- The students and staff of the department went on a rally to the near by places of the college to create awareness on global warming and ozone layer 16.09.2019.
  • Celebration of World Fisheries Day- Department of Zoology has orgamised Exhibition of different varieties of Fishes and Live Fishes on the occasion of World Fisheries Day. 11.2019.
  • AIDS Day Rally- The rally with the staff started from the college and went upto the District Medical Health Office, Guntur. Then the incharge District Collector and Medical officer addressed all the college students at AC college. 12.2019
  • Fieldtrip to Uppalapadu Bird Sanctury- The department of Zoology has organised a Field trip to Uppalapadu Bird Sanctury for M.Sc Zoology students as a part of project work in their curriculum. 11.2019
  • Biospark 2019- of Zoology, Government College for Women (A), Guntur in collaboration with District Resource Center (DRC), Guntur conducted Inter - Institute Biology Fest, BIOSPARK- 2019. Competitions like Quiz, Spell bee, Treasure Hunt, Spot Painting, Tell the Scientific Name, Just a Minute and Guess Me. 12.12.2019
  • Visit to 15th Pharmacy Scientific Education Expo- A Field visit to 15th Pharmacy Scientific Education Expo at Chalapathi college of Pharmacy, LAM, Guntur by the Students visited drug testing lab, learnt about various medicinal plants, complete blood profile testing, making of drugs etc., 17.12.2019 & 18.12.2019
  • Food Adulteration Workshop- The department of Zoology has organised a workshop on Food Adulteration to create awareness on different food adulterants, about the role of AGMARK and FSSAI in food safety, food regulation acts and policies and simple tests to identify food adulterants at 19.12.2019
  • Workshop on Foldscope Usage & Assembling- One Day Workshop on Foldscope Usage & Assembling by was conducted at JKC College, Guntur,A.P by Dr. Tulasi, Head, Dept of Zoology, Government college for women(A), Guntur to create awareness about the foldscope and its usage in the research 19.12.2019
  • Museum Specimens Display- The department has displayed Museum specimens to Govt. Junior College students and explained Human Physiology through 27.01.2020
  • Alumni meet with 2016-19 passed out students- An interaction was held with 2016-19 passed out students and Prof. Vara Lakshmi, old alumni,Rtd reader of English by the department of Zoology to acquaint with various universities PG entrance examinations and preparation strategies for competitive exams. 02.2020
  • Guest lecture- A Guest Lecture was organised in the department with Dr. J. Madhavi, Asst. Professor in the of Botany & Microbiology, Acharya Nagarjuna University as Resource person to create knowledge on the complement system. 12.02.2020
  • Guest lecture by Dr. S. Mutha Reddy garu on Spectroscopy and Chromatographic techniques to know and estimate about the proteins present in the 29.02.2020
  • Skill Oriented and Outcome based Residential Training Programme in Aquaculture Practices at State Institute of Fisheries Technology (SIFT), Kakinada. This six day programme is not only useful to students but also to the staff to gain practical knowledge. The students who are trained can be placed in shrimp and prawn At the end of the programme the students and staff were given certificates. 17.02.2020-22.02.2020

  • Workshop on “Foldscope Assembly and Usage: The department has organized One day Faculty Orientation Workshop on “Foldscope Assembly and Usage” sponsored by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India on 13.07.2018
  • Orientation to First Year students and Appreciation to Semester Toppers: The department conducted an Appreciation programme to semester toppers on 02.08-.2018
  • Awareness programme on Organ Donation: Department of Zoology in collaboration with MEPMA and Guntur medical College, organised a programme on Organ Donation on 04.08.2018. Dr.Ravi Raj from MEPMA, Dr.Ameen from GMC gave a wonderful presentation on Organ donation
  • Celebration of National Scientific Temper Day: To gain knowledge on logical and rational thinking the department celebrated National Scientific Temper Day in collaboration with Jana Vignana Vedika on 20.08.2018
  • Foldscope orientation workshop to 9th and 10th class students of Social Welfare Girls Hostel, Guntur: To create awareness on foldscope usage and assembling for the students of Social Welfare Girls Hostel, Guntur the department has conducted extension activity on 09.09.2018
  • Extension activity by III Yr Zoology Students at Takellapadu School: Extension activity by III Yr Zoology Student at Takellapadu School on 13.09.2018
  • Extension activity in Zilla Parishad High school, Nallapadu: The department has adopted Zilla Parishad High school, Nallapadu explaining important topics in biology classes to X class students of both the media. The activity was conducted on 15.09.2018
  • Rally on Global warming and Depletion of Ozone layer on Ozone day: To create awareness on consequences of Global warming and depletion of ozone layer the department has organized a rally on 16.09.2018.
  • Field Trip to LAM farm: The department has organized field trip to LAM farm for final Year zoology students in order to visit Live stock research station, poultry and piggery units in Krishi Vignana Kendra on 24.09.2018
  • Guest lecture by Dr. Sivaiah garu on Live stock Research Station: Invited lecture presented by Dr. Sivaiah garu, Scientist from Live Stock Research Station, Lam, Guntur for final year Zoology students on 01.10.2018

  • Hands on training for faculty and students on simple model systems: The department has organized“Two day Hands on Training on Simple Model Systems” from 2nd to 3rd Feb 2019 in collaboration with CUBE (Collaborative Undergraduate Biology Education), HBCSE, TIFR, Mumbai
  • Guest lecture by Sri. Krupanidhi on Immune cells and Immunity: Krupanidhi garu, HoD, Department of Biotechnology, Vignan University gave a resourceful presentation on Immune cells and immunity for students of Zoology on 5.2.2019
