DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES 2022-23

  • 2K Run and Rally-06-08-2022- A run was organized from the college campus to NTR stadium via police parade grounds on 6-8-2022.Students and staff from colleges across Guntur participated in this event. Staff and students of the Department of Chemistry went to this rally with placards.
  • PPT presentation by students on popular academic and research institutes established after independence-11-08-2022-To create awareness of opportunities available for higher education and research in national institutes and develop ICT skills in students
  • Preparation and distribution of eco-friendly national flags as part of Azadi ka Amrit mahothsav-12-08-2022- To encourage creativity, patriotism, and environmentally friendly attitude in students this program was organized.
  • Ganesh Idols Distribution-30-08-2022- To spread awareness both in public and students about eco-friendly living by adopting environmentally safe practices this program was conducted on 30-8-2022 with the collaboration of 'Saksham' an NGO organization.
  • Ozone Day-Quiz Competition-16-09-2022- To spread awareness to students about eco-friendly living and the harmful effects of CFCs-based products used in our day-to-day life this program was organized by the Department of Chemistry.
  • Aids Day-01-12-2022- To develop awareness among wards about the Aids and precautions required to prevent it. The program was conducted on 01/12/2022.
  • National Pollution Control Day-02-12-2022- To develop awareness about pollution and its consequences on the environment among students. The program was conducted on 02/12/2022.
  • Field Trip to Agricultural University, Bapatla to learn about Soil Testing-14-12-2022- To get hands-on experience and practical knowledge in the certificate course a “Field Trip” was organized by the department to “The Department of Soil Testing and Agricultural Chemistry”, Acharya Ranga Agricultural University, Bapltla.
  • Guest Lecture On ‘Nano Chemistry”- 28-12-2022 inculcate an idea of the present trending research area a Guest lecture On” Nano Chemistry” was organized.
  • Get Together Of Chemistry Alumni-21-12-2022- To cherish and appreciate the contribution of alumni of the department a get-together of Chemistry Alumni was organized On 21-12-2022.
  • Guest Lecture On “Chemistry In Everyday Life”- 08-02-2023- To develop an affinity towards the subject a guest lecture on “Chemistry in everyday life” was organized on 8-2-2023 with Dr. Ravindra, Lecturer in Chemistry from om Government Degree college.
  • Field Trip to industries Sri Chakra cement, Karampudi, and the mini-Hydroelectric project, at Narasaraopet-21-02-2023: A field trip was planned with students of final years from all disciplines on 21-2-2023. Two industries Sri Chakra Cements, Karampudi, and the mini-Hydroelectric project, at Narasaraopet, were selected for the visit.
  • Participation in “Chemzeal” an outreach activity organized by SRM University-11-03-2023: To create awareness about research activities available and the use of various instruments available for chemistry research.
  • One Day workshop on plastic waste management-03-05-2023- To create awareness of the hazards of plastic and discourage the use of plastic articles in day-to-day life.
  • Certificate Course in Preparation Of Soaps and Detergents-01-04-2023 to 06-05-2023: A 30-hour certificate course was planned by the department for students of all streams from 1-4-2023 to 6-5-2023.

Departmental Activities 2021-22

  • Seminar on Spectroscopy and its application -20-06-2021: The Department Of Chemistry Organised “One-day Seminar on Spectroscopic Techniques” on 20-06-2021 to enrich the knowledge of students.
  • Workshop on Food adulteration-23-09-2021- The Department of Chemistry organizing a Workshop On Food Adulteration On”16-09-2021, to raise awareness and educate participants about the various forms of food adulteration, its consequences on public health, and strategies for prevention and detection.
  • Awareness Programme on climate change Future we chose -20-11-2021- An awareness program was conducted on climate change on 20th November 2021 to create awareness about the need to shift to renewable energy sources and to save ourselves from the adverse effects of climate change.
  • Webinar On Environmental Audit-12-03-2022- To inculcate awareness about different types of acts and various types of pollution over the importance of environmental audits among the students the Department of Chemistry organized a program for environmental audits on 12-3-2022.
  • Water Club activity-Importance and management of water Resources-22-03-2022- As part of the Water Club activity (Extension activity by the Department of Chemistry, Govt. College for Women (A), Guntur), has organized a program at S. J. R. R. M. M. C. High School, Kothapet, Guntur on 22nd March 2022 for providing awareness and practical knowledge to students about the Importance, Management and Conservation of Water on the occasion of World Water Day – 2022.
  • Income generation Preparation of Phenol, Detergents, and Tile Cleaner-26-03-2022- To develop innovation and entrepreneurial skills among students and make them employable after their studies. The program was conducted on 26/3/2022
  • Exhibition cum sale Of Phenol, detergents, and tile cleaners-01/04/2022: CHEMISTRY PG II year students on 01/04/2022 prepared exhibited, and sold the products of phenol, detergents, and tile cleaners prepared in the chemistry lab.
  • Certificate Course in applications of analytical methods in water quality estimation-from 6-4-2022 to 18-6-2022- To create awareness of water analysis and employability in the water analytical labs the Chemistry Department offered this certificate course.
  • Preparation of food and water holders for birds-10-05-2022: In the process of teaching Environmental Chemistry paper in semester V, students were given this as project work to create awareness about the importance of the Environment and Natural resources and how we can protect them.

Departmental activities 2020-21

  • Chemistry aspects of COVID-19-3-06-2020- The Department of Chemistry has designed a quiz, containing questions that are relevant to present COVID conditions as well as the Chemistry behind these conditions.
  • Emerging trends in chemistry with emphasis on research-13,14th June 2020- The two-day international webinar was conducted on the 13th and 14th of June from 10A.M to 1 P.M.
  • World Ozone Day-16-9-2020- As COVID conditions are prevailing and the whole country is in lockdown, the Department of Chemistry performed this activity “GCW GREEN DRIVE: Plant a sapling and arrest depletion of the Ozone layer” as a @home activity while connected virtually.
  • National Energy Conservation 14-12-2020- the Department of Chemistry organizes a painting competition on the Theme “Ways to conserve energy” on 14-12-2020.
  • PPT presentation on Scientists in Chemistry-1-03-2021- As part of the celebrations of “NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY” e. on Sunday 28/02/2021, the Department of Chemistry organized an elocution and PPT competition on 01st March 2021 conducted
  • World Water Day-22-3-2021- An awareness program along with elocution was conducted To create awareness of the importance of water.
  • World Earth day-22-04-2021-Plantation by Staff and students on the campus on 22-04-2021 on the day of World Earth Day.
  • Certificate Course in WATER ANALYSIS-PURIFICATION METHODS-01/07/2021 to 31/08/2021- The training aims at creating awareness of water analysis and employability in the water analytical labs.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES 2019-20

  • Field Trip-30/11/2019 - To gain live experience and develop an interest in Chemistry, students were taken on a field trip to Machilipatnam- SSD polymers, Sudha artificial jewelry gold covering the manufacturing industry at Machilipatnam on 30th November 2019.   
  • Extension Activity Under DRC -23/01/2020- To share the resources and knowledge with the students of GDC, Bapatla, and to give exposure to instrumental chemical analysis. In collaboration with DRC, the department of chemistry, along with faculty and students has conducted an extension activity at GDCW, Bapatla.
  • Certificate Course: Soil Analysis-27/01/2020:- the Department of Chemistry offered a certificate course on Soil Analysis during the academic year 2019-2020 from Jan 27th to 6th
  • One-Day Workshop On “Stereochemistry Of Carbon Compounds”- 30/01/2020:- To create interest in “ STEREOCHEMISTRY” among students about the structures and isomerisms of organic compounds, and the effects of nomenclature.
  • Guest lecture on spectroscopic techniques:- 12/02/2019- The Department of Chemistry organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “INTRODUCTION TO SPECTROSCOPY AND ITS TECHNIQUES” by Dr.A.Suneetha Head of the Department, Hindu College Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guntur on 27/1/2020 to cover the syllabus and provide additional inputs to the students.
  • Inter Collegiate Competitions-17/02/2019- During this competition quiz, Just a minute, Seminars were conducted and certificates and prizes were given to the winners.
  • Poster Presentation-22/2/2020- The two best posters were selected by the faculty of the Department of Physics S. Venkateswara Rao, and Manjula Bharathi who acted as judges for the program
  • Water Club Activity-27/02/2020- As part of the Water Club activity (Extension activity), Dept of Chemistry, organized a program on “Water Hardness” at Sri Zawhar English Medium High School, Guntur for 8th 9th, and 10th classes students. Since the children are our future generation. The program is basically to create and spread awareness of water Hardness Alkalinity, pH, and Acidity. In this program, II Year B.SC students of our college presented on the topic “Water Hardness, Alkalinity, pH value, and Acidity, etc, and actively participated in the program.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES 2018-19

  • Ecofriendly Ganesh Idols Distribution -12/09/2018: This program was organized by the Department of Chemistry on the previous day of Ganesh Chaturthi on 09.2018 to encourage the usage of clay idols by explaining the harmful effects of POP on the environment.
  • Ozone Day-16/09/2018:This program was organized to create awareness of Environmental Pollution and Hazardous pollution due to polluting agents like Chloro Fluorocarbons and to generate attentiveness in protecting the Ozone layer.
  • Guest Lecture-1-26/09/2018: A guest lecture was organized on 26/09/2018 for better understanding and to develop in-depth knowledge of molecular symmetry.
  • Orientation Programme on Cluster Pattern -01/10/2018: As the students are newly introduced to the cluster option this year, a program was conducted on 01st October 2018 in collaboration with all Science and Mathematics departments to develop awareness about it.
  • World Aids Day-01/12/2018- A rally was conducted on Dec 1st, 2018 by chemistry department Staff along with students on the event of Worlds AIDS Day.
  • Science Exhibition “The World Of Chemistry”- As part of extracurricular activities, an Exhibition was organized by the Chemistry department on 04/01/2019.
  • SCHOOL To LAB PROGRAMME-05/01/2019- To develop scientific temperament among school students a program was conducted for school students on 05-01-2019 in the assembly hall.
  • Janmabhoomi-10/01/2019- To develop a cordial atmosphere with the villagers and the neighborhood community and to understand problems faced by them for exploring solutions through our perspective.
  • Field Trip-24/01/2019- To give live experience and develop interest in Chemistry students were taken to a field trip to Machilipatnam on 24th January 2019.   
  • Chemistry Quiz-05/02/2019- Developing the subject knowledge among the students and encouraging teamwork. This Program was conducted as part of celebrations of the 150th-year invention of the periodic Table on 05-02-2019.
  • Guest Lecture-2-07/02/2019 - To understand the basic principles and advanced industrial methods used in gas analysis. As the CBCS cluster system was introduced for third B. Sc students, and students opted for industrial chemistry, guest lectures from experts in this field were invited.
  • Campaigning Programme in Junior College -13/02/2018: To increase the admissions to graduation courses an awareness program was conducted on 13th February 2019 in the neighborhood junior college about the advantages of enrolling in B. Sc. Chemistry.
  • National Science Day-28/02/2019- National Science Day is celebrated in memory of Chandrasekhar Venkata Raman’s (Sir. C. V. Raman) work for the discovery of the Raman Effect on 28-02-1928 who got the Nobel prize in physics in 1930. The Theme of the year 2019 is “Science for the People and People for the Science.
  • International Women’s Day-08/03/2019- To motivate the female students towards research, a guest lecture was organized on the topic “Women Scientists & Opportunities Available for Women in Research Organizations” commentating on International Women’s Day on 8th March 2019.
  • One Day Workshop on “Spectroscopic Techniques”- 12/03/2019- The Department of Chemistry has conducted a workshop on “spectroscopic techniques” on 12-02-2019 for students from 10 AM to 5 PM. Dr. M.Sivanath, associate professor in chemistry, ANR College Gudivada, and Dr. B. Latha, lecturer in chemistry, GCW. Guntur acted as a resource person.
  • Certificate Course 1: Water Analysis(Impact Of Polluted Water on Human Health)-21/01/2019 to 05/03/2019- the Department of Chemistry offered a certificate course on Water Analysis during the academic year 2018-19 from Jan 21st to March 5th..Students were educated about the types of water pollution, different techniques used in water analysis, and ways to reduce water pollution.
  • Certificate Course 2: Soil Analysis-21/01/2019 to 05/03/2019- Enlarging awareness about soil management to save our earth's fertility and contribute to the increased productivity in modern agriculture,the Department of Chemistry offered a certificate course on Soil Analysis during the academic year 2018-19 from Jan 21st to March 5th.
