Department of Sociology

Vision

The department of Sociology aspires to provide its student with academic programmes and experimental learning and opportunities that will the understanding of Sociology and its applicability in a variety of Social Settings and also to develop understanding of Sociological behaviors among the students and to train them for the betterment of society.

  • Accomplished through excellent instruction in the Sociological perspective, Research methods, theories and specific content areas.
  • To develop Higher Order Thinking. 
  • To impart job skills to students and make them employable and self-reliant.

About the Department

  • The Department of Sociology was established in the year 1969. 
  • The institution has introduced innovative changes in the curriculum under Choice Based Credit System with the motive of preparing the students to cope with the competitive world. 
  • The department is offering Certificate courses and Training programs. 
  • The strategies adopted for the revision of the existing programmes are as follows:

The department offers only one Skill Development Course the programme for B.A, SHT, (Sociology, History, Special Telugu) combination for about 1000 students. 

Students are encouraged with the following Merit Awards

  • Kamala Seema Memorial Cup Donated and awarded for the Best Outgoing Student in Sociology.
  • Analysis of the feedback from students and Subject Experts from various fields.
  • Adopting the guidelines of UGC, APSCHE and Acharya Nagarjuna University.
  • Incorporating the suggestions of Academic Council Members.
  • Changes are made in the syllabus which is student oriented and also support the Economically backward students that helps them in self-employment.

Student Centric Teaching Learning Practices of the department such as pair work, group work, project-based learning, Self-employment skills ensured through activity-based learning, Practical component on skills assessment ensured better achievement of intended Learning Outcomes.

0ne Guest faculty members presently work in the department. The strength of the department lies in ONE faculty being doctorate.
