Vision

The Vision of psychology is to understand the human mind and behaviour through scientific inquiry, promote well-being, and contribute to the improvement of individual lives and society as a whole.

Mission

  • Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theories, methods and concepts in psychology.
  • Contribute to the well-being, mental health, and overall quality of life for individuals and society through awareness programs, workshops and through Value added courses.
  • Explore and understand the intricacies of human behavior and mental processes through case studies, personalized experiences and through different methods used in psychology and by applying psychological knowledge and interventions.
  • Develop Employability skills through national level conferences, workshops etc.

About the Department

Department of Psychology was established with the inception of the college in 1969. 

The department offers Psychology with the combination of Political science and Economics. Single member faculty presently works in the department.

Apart from the syllabus, the department offers certificate courses on need basis like Stress management, Leadership styles, Guidance& Counselling skills etc;

Students are also encouraged with the following Merit Awards

  • Dr.V. Subrahmanyam memorial award for the Best Outgoing Student in Psychology
  • Dr.T.D.Vimala Rolling cup award for the best all-rounder in Psychology.  

The department familiarises students with the conceptual and applied arena of the discipline. The course offers a variety of skills that prepare a student for making as Psychologists, Counsellors in academics, bureaucratic positions and legal fields. It guides those students who are especially spirited and willing to move ahead. The department prepares students for a wide range of careers in government, non-government and private sectors. The faculty guides the students about career opportunities available for Psychology.

The department tries to enhance the students with subject specific knowledge and ability to think rationally and critically. Student Centric Teaching Learning Practices of the department such as group work, project based learning ensured through activity based learning , Practical component on skills assessment ensured better achievement of intended Learning Outcomes. It guides students understand Psychological issues. The Department is committed for inclusive education by admitting a greater number of students from marginalised sections of the society.

Few students with Psychology as one of the subjects at under-graduate level have been pursuing either Masters in the subject or went for studying B. Ed or attempting State and Central Administrative and teaching services and in Counselling services.
