To offer an education that provides a competent and globally relevant skill set comprising Communication Skills and Life Skills to students and to mold them as responsible and self-reliant individuals.
Department of English was established with the inception of the college in
1942.
The department offers Language Course and Skill Development Courses across
programmes like
B.A, B.Com, B.Sc with various combinations for about 1100 students.
Apart from language and Skill Development Courses the strength of the
department lies in the
two core courses i.e., Special English and Communicative English in three
major system and a
Single Major honours programme in Special English and a Minor in
Communicative English. The
department is offers certificate courses on need basis.
The diverse courses offered in the two programmes offered have helped students
secure admissions
in EFLU, Hyderabad Central University, AP Central University Ananthapuramu and
meritorious
awards like Best Community Service Project award of Commissionerate of College
Education, Govt.
of A.P. in 2022.
Student Centric Teaching Learning Practices of the department such as pair work,
group work,
project based learning, LSRW skills ensured through activity based learning ,
Practical
component on skills assessment ensured better achievement of intended Learning
Outcomes.
Eight faculty members presently work in the department. The strength of the
departments lies in
5 faculty being doctorates.
The first meeting of ‘Lalit’ (Language and Literary Forum) of the college
was
jointly organized
by the five language departments of the college, viz., English, Telugu,
Sanskrit, Urdu, and

Second Literary Forum Meeting: Poetry Reading session was followed by a
presentation on
Namini
Subrahmanyam Naidu, a renowned Telugu writer by Dr K. Sujata, Lecturer in
Telugu.
